We went to the annual family (husband’s family) Bocce Ball Weekend at the family’s summer ”compound”.  We call it a compound because the entire family has cottages in a row- 9 cottages to be exact.  It’s a helluva time when everyone is up there.

Me, being the WASP-y gal that I am, never played bocce ball before meeting James.  Me, also being as competitive as I am, never says no to a sport/game I could potentially win.  Each year, I dream of winning the tournament (and cash prize!).  And each year, I fall short.

(that is a very competitive face.  full concentration)

This year, however, I got my shit together.  I *may* have rigged the partner selection process (hehehe) and got paired with good ol’ uncle Eddie.  A bocce ball playing veteran.  I thought we were a shoe-in to win!

(my partner, Uncle Eddie, and myself)

This past weekend, I came as close as ever.  We played 5 hard fought matches to make it to the semi finals.  Unfortunately, we did not make it through to the finals.  We did, however, come in third place and each made 40 bucks.  Not too shabby.

I think we did so well this year because my good luck charm, little Lukey, was there cheering me on along the sidelines.

(luke is clearly entranced by the game)

(i must have made a good shot as Luke looks very thrilled about something that just happened).

Now I have another year to wait until I can play again and (hopefully) WIN GOLD!
